Ever green and Ever blue

Ever Green and Ever Blue
Two spruce trees ever green and ever blue
planted side by side when they built their first home.
His favorite color green for growing things.
Her favorite color blue like robin’s eggs and sky.
Two spruce trees ever green and ever blue grew gardens.
His to nourish them with grapevines, peas, and fresh rhubarb.
Hers to inspire hearts with lavender lilacs, Hydrangeas, and forget me nots
Young Saplings grew beneath the trees as their family sprouted
Two spruce trees ever green and ever blue grew taller and stronger.
Their branches intertwined like their lives.
Winds blew and storms brewed,
They stood closer as life’s trials took their toll.
Two spruce trees ever green and ever blue grew older.
One started leaning in
He hobbled on a cane.
She took the extra weight.
Two spruce trees evergreen and ever blue,
One soul left to another plane.
Two spruce trees stand.
He is with her still ,ever green and ever blue.

A Tradition of Country Magazine

A Tradition of Country Magazine
My father grew up in the country in a place called Chester, Idaho. Chester had two gas stations and a general store that bordered the highway going to Yellowstone National Park. My Uncle Delbert was the Proprietor of the General Store which also served as a Post Office and gathering place for the town.
My father was a dry farmer and grew up in Chester. He loved the beauty of the land and the wheat fields waving in the wind like a lake of gold. He was a true country boy which included everything from gathering the eggs, to herding the cows and milking them by hand.
One of his favorite things to do in his Golden Years was to enjoy the Country Magazine with all the beauty and simple joys of country living. I’m sure it reminded him of his childhood and growing up in the country. Whenever I came over for a visit I loved to look in the magazine too and especially enjoyed the amazing photographs captured each season in different country settings.
My father noticed all his children enjoyed the magazine when they came for a visit. We had been children in Chester and grew up with life in the country too so he started giving us a subscription every year as a Christmas gift. It was a present we could enjoy all year through and remember our love for our dad and the country as we viewed the pages.
After my dad died we felt sad knowing this tradition might not continue but my mom true to his memory and knowing it would remind us of him, continued the tradition. We still get a subscription every Christmas. It’s been seven years that he’s been gone but it’s like our dad keeps giving us a present from him even though he has passed on.
